Finch Robot inspires and delights students learning computer science by providing them a tangible representation of their code by programming embedded lights, sensors, and motors. Simply plug your robot into your computer to start coding in languages from kindergarten to college. Designed at Carnegie Mellon University for the AP Computer Science classroom, this tool uses industry-standard programming environments, such as Python and Java, but also scaffolds to the absolute beginner using Snap and Scratch.

Finch Robot 2.0 will launch with access to the following programming languages:

FinchBlox (iOS, Android); BirdBlox (iOS, Android); MakeCode (Chrome, Mac, Windows, Linux); Snap! (Mac, Windows); Python (Mac, Windows); Java (Mac, Windows)

Note: A bluetooth dongle is required for Snap!, Python, and Java on Windows and pre-2014 Macs.

IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ!
  • Please only reserve the amount of items needed for your students.
  • Items will be delivered and picked up by the BCIU delivery service and will be subject to their established delivery schedule and district building pickup and drop-off locations.
  • Items can be borrowed for a maximum of two weeks (extensions can be requested).
  • Please complete this reservation form AT LEAST one week prior to requesting date. We will do our best to honor request dates, but know this will be dependent on availability and staffing. We cannot guarantee delivery dates for requests that are submitted at the last minute.
  • Please note: There is a $40 BCIU delivery fee for materials delivery to non-public schools. Non-public teachers are welcome to pick up materials at BCIU Main Office for no cost.
