Storytime STEM Pack: Peg + Cat, The Racecar Problem
STEM Concepts: Engineering Design; Forces and Interactions
Developing and Optimizing Design Solutions
This Storytime STEM-Pack includes all the materials you need to engage kids in an engineering design task that also explores the concept of force and motion. The activity is launched by reading the popular children's book Peg+Cat, The Race Car Problem with them, and challenges the children to help Peg and Cat to solve a problem, helping Peg and Cat to get off to a good start in the Tallapegga Twenty. Included in this set, you'll find:
- Detailed instructions (i.e., lesson plan) for the learning activities
- Race car making materials for six groups of four kids
- Word wall cards to use in context
- A copy of Peg +Cat by Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson
The entire activity takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. This STEM-Pack is suitable for grades PreK-2
IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ!
NOTE: Storytime STEM-packs users will need to submit a list of any kit consumables that were used while in your classroom so they can be replenished for the next reservation.
Email STEMLibrary@caiu.org with the name of your kit, type(s) and amounts of materials consumed during the time you borrowed the kits.
Able to replenish the items yourself through the stash of typical school supplies? Awesome! Please consider doing so and pay it forward.
