Mathematics: Counting and Measurement & Data

This Storytime STEM-Pack consists of two parts and includes all the materials you need to engage kids in science and mathematics activities that address the science concepts of structure and function and inheritance of traits, as well as mathematics concepts of counting and measurements & data.  After reading the story, children watch a video of birds flocking to a bird feeder. They learn about external parts of a bird, and describe the birds that come to the feeder, using 8 beautiful bird cards, showing male, female and juvenile of each of the eight species. They then tally the number of birds that come to the feeder, using post-it notes on a graph card, talking about what the graph is telling them about the number of birds. Each group then makes a small bird feeder with the materials provided. Included in this set, you'll find:

 

Each of the two parts takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.  This STEM-pack is suitable for grades K-2.

NOTE: Storytime STEM-packs users will need to submit a list of any kit consumables that were used while in your classroom so they can be replenished for the next reservation.
