Storytime STEM Pack: Too Many Carrots

This Storytime STEM-Pack includes all the materials you need to engage kids in an engineering design task that also required the application of multiplication and division. The activity is launched by reading the popular children's book, Too Many Carrots, and challenges the kids to help rabbit by building a boat to transport a crop of 120 “carrots” (beans) to the local food bank across the river. Included in this set, you'll find:
- Detailed instructions (i.e., lesson plan) for the learning activities
- Materials for eight groups of three kids to build and redesign a boat (96 craft sticks, 64 straws, 1 role of aluminum foil, 1 role of masking tape)
- 1 bag of dried beans
- 8 plastic rabbits
- 24 Boat Design handouts (8.5x11)
- 1 Engineering Design Concept Card (8.5x11)
- A copy of Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson
The entire activity takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. This STEM-Pack is suitable for grades 3-4.
IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ!
NOTE: Storytime STEM-packs users will need to submit a list of any kit consumables that were used while in your classroom so they can be replenished for the next reservation.
