The Heggerty Conciencia Fonológica kindergarten lessons are designed to supplement your existing literacy curriculum and easily integrate into half-day or full-day kindergarten programs within dual language or transitional bilingual classrooms. When lessons are taught daily, teachers see improvement in students’ reading, spelling, and writing as the students learn to hear the sounds in words.

This curriculum is not a translation of the English version but a tailored set of lessons focusing on 10 literacy components: 8 phonological awareness skills, alphabet awareness, and language awareness. The lessons provide students systemic exposure to Spanish sounds and syllables to deepen their understanding of spoken words. They also include various ideas for providing metalinguistic instruction to deepen children’s understanding of Spanish and to support cross-linguistic analysis.
