Whole group instruction. All lessons, plus 6 additional weeks of lessons for intervention instruction, can be used in small groups to support 1st & 2nd grade students who need additional support with targeted skills instruction.

The Heggerty Conciencia Fonológica Primaria lessons are designed to supplement your existing literacy curriculum and easily integrate into dual-language or transitional bilingual 1st and 2nd-grade classrooms. When lessons are taught daily, teachers see improvement in students’ reading, spelling, and writing as the students learn to hear the sounds in words.

This curriculum is not a translation of the English version but a tailored set of lessons focusing on 10 literacy components: 8 phonological awareness skills, alphabet awareness, and language awareness. It includes foundational literacy skills that support literacy development in Spanish and can be transferred to English with strategic metalinguistic instruction. The lessons include phonemic awareness work within syllables, blending, segmenting, manipulating phonemes and syllables, and include connections to print through phoneme-grapheme connections.
